Marin Horizon School was founded in 1977 by a small group of parents and educators who wanted a different environment for educating children. They developed a program based on the teachings of Maria Montessori that also included the flexibility to incorporate timely educational innovations. At the core of the program is a deep respect for the innate wisdom of children and an environment that encourages them to think independently and challenges them to be responsible stewards of their world.

As our current generation fills the halls and classrooms, the feel of MHS and what makes us such a unique place for learning remains the same. To this, we owe thanks to the many generous community members including parents, grandparents, board members, faculty and staff, alumni and friends who have invested in the spirit and future of the school. Marin Horizon School relies on philanthropy to carry out our vision and encourages our community to make MHS their charitable giving priority.
