Welcome to the Marin Horizon School Library

The MHS library houses over 5000 volumes and is staffed by a professional school librarian. Students come to the Library weekly and learn how to do research using books, the internet, and a wide variety of other resources. The Library's collection is specifically chosen to reflect the demands of the MHS curriculum, and contans an extensive collection of reference books, non-fiction and fiction for all ages, biographies, picture books, and more.

The Library is the literary and information center for the school with six computers, color printers, a scanner, and other technology to enable students to produce sophisticated research reports.

Are you searching for books for your Harry Potter maniac? We've got the Harry Potter Withdrawal List to keep your student reading until the next installment in the Harry Potter series is ready. Also check out Finding Good Books, a compilation of websites and books which are an excellent resource for reading material for children.

Are you looking for kid-safe websites or information on internet safety? Check out our librarian-compiled Links for Kids and Parents in the Community > Resources section.

In keeping with our school's commitment to life-long learning, we have a Parent Reading List! These books cover education and learning (by authors whose work supports or reflects our approach) as well as children, parenting, and families in general.

Anne's Rules of Reading

  • Read to your children as often as possible.
  • Let your children see you reading. Set a good example.
  • Reading is reading, (Anything is better than nothing, even Captain Underpants)
  • If your child isn't crazy about fiction, try nonfiction (dinosaurs, space, race cars, biographies, etcetera).
  • When in doubt, ask a children's librarian!

MHS Birthday Book Club

The Birthday Book Club (BBC) is an opportunity for students to donate a book to the library in honor of his or her birthday. Children receive a thank you card at home, their name is added to the BBC poster, their name and donation appear in the Wednesday Bulletin, and a bookplate inscribed with their name is placed in the book.
