Horizon Community School: Early Childhood Education in Marin City

Achieving the Vision

Horizon Community School (HCS) is a thriving, early childhood education program that advances educational equity and social justice in the heart of Marin City. HCS is led by passionate educators with deep ties to the community whose mission is to provide Marin City families with access to quality early childhood education.

Since HCS first opened in August 2017, the vibrant program has served 36 children (ages 2-5), providing a strong foundation for long-term success in their educational paths. Each day, HCS offers a rich learning environment to enable children to tap into their highest potential at an affordable tuition.

Finding a Long Term Home

With the early success of HCS, it is time to deepen our roots in Marin City. Currently, HCS is located in a single classroom leased from the Marin City Community Services District. To meet the program’s full potential and continue to provide children and families within the community with access to quality early childhood education, we need more classroom and administrative space.

As we look ahead, we are very thankful to have found a nearby location on an open lot on St. Andrew Presbyterian Church property along Drake Avenue. The new location allows us to dramatically enhance our program while remaining in Marin City for the long-term. Here are some key features that are included in the HCS relocation and enhancement plan at St. Andrew:

  • Three new, modular classrooms programmed for different age groups
  • A new, modular administrative space
  • An outdoor play area and gardening space
