Fall 2020 Community Read

We are excited to invite you to join our Fall 2020 Community Read. As a school deeply committed to our mission around diversity, equity and inclusion, and also striving to become an anti-racist school, we look forward to coming together to learn and expand our dialogue about these critical issues.

Books to choose from:

Why are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria by Beverly Daniel Tatum
Beverly Daniel Tatum highlights the need for healthy racial identity development for all kids in order to enable communication across race and ethnicity.

How To Be an Anti-Racist by Ibram Kendi
Building on the connection between white supremacy and institutional racism, Ibram Kendi proposes anti-racist individual actions and systemic changes.

We Want To Do More Than Survive by Bettina Love
Bettina Love introduces an alternative to traditional modes of educational reform and expands our ideas of civic engagement and intersectional justice.

Once you have selected your book(s), please complete this survey so that we know which books have been chosen.  And mark your calendars for our virtual community discussion, led by Elizabeth Denevi, on Wednesday, October 14.  More details to come closer to the event.  For more information about the community read, see the letter from Jen Coyne and Stevie Lee.
