Community Corner: November 18, 2020

Thanksgiving is a time for reflection, appreciation, gratitude, and giving. In this spirit and in keeping with Marin Horizon's history of community service, this month we are highlighting opportunities to give back to our community.

Canned Food Drive Ends Friday
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, the Parent Association has organized a canned food drive to benefit the SF-Marin Food Bank. Look for the barrels at the school pick-up/drop-off areas. Donations will be accepted through Friday, November 20. Please help us make sure that all of our neighbors will be well fed this Thanksgiving. Thank you for your support!

Art Projects for The Redwoods
While we are hunkered down before the holiday, why not come together as a family and make a craft that will bring a smile to the faces of our neighbors at The Redwoods - Assisted Living Facility! We have the patterns for three great projects traced and ready for cutting. Please volunteer to help by either cutting out the pattern pieces or cutting and assembling the entire project! We are making 3D turkeys, pumpkins, and leaf wreaths.

If you are interested in helping, please contact Jennifer Coyne at jbliebman@gmail.com for details about the project. Thank you for giving back this holiday season!

Seed Releaf
Marin Horizon parent Ilyse Wassermann Petter (parent to Juliet in 8th grade) is co-founder of the nonprofit organization Seed Releaf. Seed Releaf started at the beginning of the pandemic, partnering with local restaurants and farms, donating plant-based meals and CSA boxes to those in need in our community. You can help by volunteering or purchasing CSA boxes this holiday season.

Thanksgiving Food Baskets
Please help Performing Stars with their Thanksgiving baskets project by making sweet treats or preparing and delivering baskets to families. This is an easy way to make a difference and have fun with your family before the holidays! Families can sign up to make 10 “sweet treat” packages each, to be delivered to the Methodist Church across from Mill Valley Middle School on Sunday, November 22 between 11am – 2pm. Click here to sign up to donate sweet treats. Click here to help package baskets on the Sunday or Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

Spirit Wear Store is Open for the Holidays!
The Marin Horizon Spirit Wear holiday shop is now OPEN! Check out new items and styles including socks, joggers, and waterproof blankets for outside gatherings! The shop will stay open through December 4. Orders ship approximately 2 weeks after the store closes. Start your shopping here!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
