February Vacation Travel and Testing Requirements

In preparation for February break, we are asking families to be informed about our expectations around travel, activities and testing requirements for returning to campus. As we did after the December vacation, we are requiring testing for students in grades 1–8.
Travel and High-Risk Activities
Travel should be eliminated if at all possible. The following activities are still considered high risk and should be avoided:
  • Spending time within 6 feet of people you do not share a household with.
  • Traveling on planes, buses, trains, or public transportation.
  • Traveling in shared vehicles, if face coverings are not worn at all times by both you and the other people in the vehicle.
  • Indoor gatherings of more than 3 households
  • Lodging that includes sharing spaces with many people and shared bathroom facilities.
  • Being in crowds—for example, malls or ski lodges.
  • Attending a mass gathering like a sporting event, concert, or parade.
Any student who engages in the above high-risk activities will be required to quarantine for 10 days from the date of the high-risk activity OR quarantine for 7 days and provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test result. The test must be completed 5 days after the high-risk activity.

As always, if you or anyone in your family comes in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, or if anyone in your family tests positive, please let Veronica (veronica@marinhorizon.org) know as soon as possible.

  • Students in grades 1 through 8 will be in distance learning on Monday, 2/22 and Tuesday, 2/23.
  • In-person classes will resume on Wednesday, 2/24.
  • Families will need to provide a negative COVID test result for their child(ren) prior to returning in person on Wednesday, 2/24. Test results need to be received by the school no later than Monday, February 22, at 4:00 p.m. Marin Horizon is offering testing on campus on Thursday, 2/18. If you take advantage of our on-campus testing and sign a release form (provided on test day), the school will be able to see your results directly, which means you won’t have to forward them to the school.
  • Disclaimer: We have been assured that we will receive test results from our vendor prior to the 24th. However, there are no guarantees given the number of schools testing. If test results are delayed, we will have to extend distance learning to Thursday, 2/25.
  • COVID tests should be taken no earlier than February 17 in order to return to campus on 2/24.
  • Families who do not provide a negative test result for their child will need to quarantine their child for 10 days beginning on February 20, which means an in-person return date of Tuesday, March 2.
Testing
-Test Date 2/18: Sign-up portal closes Saturday 2/13 at midnight
-Test Date 2/25: Sign-up portal closes Saturday 2/20 at midnight
  • Families can also schedule testing through their healthcare provider or other testing vendors.
  • If you test on campus and sign a release form (provided on test day), the school will be able to see your results directly. Otherwise, please send test results to COVIDtest@marinhorizon.org. If you have questions about how to do this, contact Stephanie (stephanie@marinhorizon.org).
Our partnership with all of you remains critical in reducing the risk of transmission on campus. We appreciate the diligence with which families have followed protocols and informed us of possible exposures. We’ve come so far and there is now light at the end of the tunnel. Let’s remain vigilant!
