Marin Horizon 4th Grader Featured in National Poem

We are thrilled to share that a part of 4th grader Tony’s poem was selected by best-selling author Kwame Alexander to be included in his latest community poem for the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Civil Rights Memorial Center, titled “A Civil Community.” Nearly 1,000 people submitted poems for consideration, and Tony was one of just 27 to be chosen. Tony is shown here with his teacher Gavin, who encouraged Tony to submit his work. The poem can be found here: https://www.splcenter.org/civil-community and will be featured in an exhibit at the CRMC. The 4th graders have been writing poems for change as part of their ongoing learning about identity and social justice. This is another powerful way for students to make their voices heard through writing.
