Thank You for a Wonderful First Community Conversation!

Thank you to everyone who attended the Community Conversations: Becoming a Climate Champion in Our Community event, and to everyone who has shown interest in Marin Horizon's sustainability initiatives.

Over 40 people attended the program last Wednesday in person or via Zoom, and we had representation across all factions of our community: students, families, teachers, and administration. We heard from 3 inspiring speakers, including Marin Horizon parent Al Grumet, who shared their stories and personal journeys to climate activism. Marin Horizon science teachers Mo Poxon and Nikki Tokar discussed our science curriculum and some of the things our kids are doing to learn about and combat the climate crisis. We also saw climate passion in action through the homemade movie created by 5th grader Mia Terfort!
The energy and excitement in the room (and on Zoom!) was palpable and it was a joy to see our students, families, and faculty join together in a unified mission to become sustainability champions and climate activists in our community.

To help every individual find their “sweet spot” for climate action, we put together a virtual menu of options and a roadmap to many different avenues of education and climate action. This “Trello Board” is available to every member of our community, and will live in several different places on our internal website.

The Sustainability Trello Board can be accessed here: Marin Horizon Sustainability Trello Board.

In addition to the many different volunteer opportunities that the Community Association is offering, there are additional individual or team activities that we welcome you to undertake to help us reach our goal of becoming a Zero Waste School and a certified Green Ribbon School.

In case you missed the Community Association’s volunteer survey, you can learn about all of these and other CA volunteer opportunities by contacting Jennifer Coyne, Vice President and Inclusion Chair, at jbliebman@gmail.com.

*If you were unable to attend the Community Conversations program last Wednesday and would like to watch the Zoom recording, contact Jennifer at jbliebman@gmail.com.

Thank you!
