Charmaine Ho Envisions a Place Where Everyone Knows Your Name

Updated: Jan 25

“We’ve always felt seen and heard” is how Charmaine Ho describes her family’s experience at Marin Horizon. When Charmaine’s now second-grade son Lucca started his school journey in Primary Year 1, the goodbyes were tearful at first. Luckily, Teacher Kyle Donohoe knew just the right balance of warmth and gold spray paint to cheer him up. Since then, Marin Horizon has been their “home away from home.”

Charmaine’s involvement at our school has included everything from class parent to library help to event planning, like the auction and faculty and staff appreciation lunches. Why so many roles? Charmaine remembers when going to school (during COVID) meant logging into Zoom and all the opportunities for connection involved a screen. She wants to make up for that lost time while giving back to the community that has given her family so much over the years. “Our community is resilient and growing. I envision a place where you walk in and everyone knows your name and greets you with a smile. It is that place for me. I hope it becomes that place for everyone who comes in.”

Charmaine’s advice for other busy parents looking to find their place in the school: “Don't let hectic schedules hold you back from getting involved. There are countless ways to contribute that can align with your family's schedule; all you have to do is ask!“ We second that sentiment. Everyone has a place in our community. We're happy to help you find yours.
