The elementary trip begins with 5th graders camping out beneath the stars at San Mateo County Park, Wurr Flat (a 5-minute walk from Camp Redwood Glen) with their 5th grade Leadership Council leaders.
Redwood Glen camp faculty include elementary teachers joined by naturalists. Classroom teachers fulfill the role of “parents” at camp, with the help of the 27 accompanying parent chaperones, while the naturalists are our teachers. We always have a fantastic week full of environmental learning and lots of fun!
Camp Redwood Glen is located 10 minutes outside of the town of Pescadero, inland from Pescadero State Beach in San Mateo County, about an hour and a half drive from Mill Valley. You can view photos of the camp on their website
. We use the camp's facility, their cooks and food service, while we run our own program.
The location of the camp allows us to do some activities in the area, including visiting Swanton Berry Farm (2nd graders), Harley Goat Farm (4th graders), and Pescadero State Beach for tide pooling (2nd-4th graders). Camp Redwood Glen has a stream on its perimeter. Additional activities include hiking, field games, learning about the ocean, redwood and stream habitats, singing, creating and performing skits, and having a great time with classmates, parent chaperones and teachers. Nightly campfires are an eagerly anticipated tradition.
