Technology Guiding Principles
At Marin Horizon School, we use technology as a tool to amplify student learning. Technology is not taught in isolation, but is integrated into the curriculum to create a real world and challenging learning environment for all.
Conscious of and intentional about its vast possibilities, our school sets high ethical standards for technology use and teaches students how to be responsible digital citizens.
We continually evaluate our use of technology to support exploration and innovation both within and beyond the classroom.Digital Citizenship:
Marin Horizon School uses Common Sense Media as well as other resources to integrate the teaching of media literacy and digital citizenship. Broad-based rules the students hear repeatedly include:
- Be Kind.
- Nothing is truly deleted.
- What is your digital footprint and digital tattoo?
- Make good choices online!
- Do not do anything on a digital device that your parents, teachers, family, and friends would not be proud to see or hear.
At Marin Horizon we believe that students should not just be consumers of technology, but that they should become creators as well. Through our technology program, we hope to demystify the devices and technologies that students use at school and at home and empower children to make good choices and skilled digital designers. We want them to be prepared to be successful leaders in the technology-infused world that awaits them when they graduate from college. Through our integrated Technology Education program, we hope to lay a strong foundation through the thoughtfully crafted and carefully planned, units and lessons, both in technology class and in other classrooms and learning spaces across our campus.
