Arts

Marin Horizon’s Visual Arts, Music and Drama curriculum fosters creativity, self-expression, and collaboration. It immerses students in an array of artistic pursuits, including drawing, painting, music, and various theater genres.

Our Visual Arts program encompasses activities such as drawing, painting, clay, and fabric arts. It marries structured techniques with free expression and incorporates explorative field trips to exhibits that align with units of study.

In the Music Program, students are introduced to a wide variety of instruments, learn about rhythm, melody, and harmony, and are encouraged to participate in school ensembles.

The Drama Program emphasizes creative expression and self-confidence through classes in dance, acting, technical theater production, and musical theater. Students engage in our highly anticipated end-of-semester musicals and dramas from Sondheim to Shakespeare allowing them to showcase their diverse talents.

Lauren Brody-Clarke

Director of Performing Arts

"Watching Lauren and her team manage 56 middle schoolers with such energy, patience, and professionalism is magical.”

Meet Our Director of Performing Arts, Lauren Brody-Clarke

Lauren works with students to mount a variety of ambitious performances each year — from our middle school full musical productions like Steven Sondheim’s Into The Woods Jr. and Shakespeare plays, to our kindergarten through fifth grade mini musicals. Lauren also leads our middle school Arts Block, including visual, digital, and musical arts, and teaches performing arts classes.

Lauren regularly invites professional colleagues who are choreographers, musical directors, and theater technicians to work with Marin Horizon students, and the sophistication of our productions can rival high school performances, and beyond.

Lauren has been performing professionally since age 8, has appeared in over 50 musical productions, 6 national tours, and Broadway credits. She has directed over 35 productions; and has helped create several educational Theater for Young Audiences (TYA) companies and musical theater programs — stretching from the U.S. Virgin Islands to New York and California. Lauren graduated from UCLA’s Theater, Film and Television Department. She has taught arts education for the past 20 years to ages kindergarten to twelfth grade, as well as adults.
