Horizon Community School

Welcome to Horizon Community School

Welcome to Horizon Community School!

Horizon Community School is the result of an innovative partnership among Marin Horizon School, Community Action Marin (CAM) and other community organizations. The Marin City campus opened its doors to an inaugural class of 12 two-year-olds on August 23, 2017. Honoring Marin Horizon School and Community Action Marin's commitment to foster and respect diversity in the community and the world, Horizon Community School satisfies a growing need for quality early childhood education in an underserved community of Marin County.

Horizon Community School believes that education is a cooperative endeavor between families and educators, and this special program features monthly family activities and educational programs to promote play, learning, and healthy routines both at school and at home.

A MESSAGE FROM THE MARIN HORIZON SCHOOL BOARD CHAIR

Horizon Community School grew out of Marin Horizon School’s mission, encouraging our students to be confident and creative individuals who are responsible to each other, our community and the world. The Marin Horizon School Board of Trustees is strongly committed to this extraordinary public-private partnership and the breakthrough progress it is making toward equitable education for all.

Horizon Community School provides a high-quality, culturally competent, Montessori-inspired preschool program for Marin City families with two- to five-year-old children. Marin Horizon School provides programmatic inspiration and administrative support to Horizon Community School, and Horizon Community School’s advancement is cultivated and managed entirely by its dedicated faculty, staff and volunteers.

Horizon Community School is a key embodiment of Marin Horizon School living its mission and taking action to effect change so that the youngest learners in Marin City are nurtured as lifelong learners. This is not a short-term project; it is a long-term initiative to which we are deeply committed. The program strives to broaden opportunities for everyone connected to Horizon Community School.

Bringing the community together to work toward equitable early education enriches the educational experience for all of the students. We look forward to nurturing this partnership for years to come.

Sincerely,

Angie Knauf
Marin Horizon School Board Chair
