Toddler Program

Welcome to the Toddler Program

Our Toddler program classroom materials promote exploration of the senses, advancement of practical life skills, as well as a sense of order. Materials are rotated frequently and become increasingly complex throughout the year. Imaginative play is encouraged daily, creating an environment where learning is fun and purposeful.

Daily Life

List of 5 items.

  • Work Time

Students engage in constructive activities of their own choosing, and are free to move at their own pace. Teachers are there to provide support and guidance; helping children find new jobs that keep them engaged and developing new skills. Art projects take place regularly during work time.
  • Outside Play

Outside time is a favorite part of the school day for Marin Horizon toddlers. Whether playing in the sandbox with friends, riding around the track on tricycles, climbing up the structure and sliding down the slide, visiting the playhouse, jumping on the trampoline, watering the garden, or playing at the water table, our toddlers enjoy a contained and safe environment in which to develop gross motor skills and social skills. They explore, discover, and have lots of fun!
  • Circle Time

During circle time, toddlers enjoy a sense of community and belonging while learning poems, songs, and stories. Curricular themes are also presented and discussed, new activities are modeled, birthdays and holidays are celebrated, and parents sometimes visit to offer guest presentations. Circle time is a joyful, participatory time where our toddlers experience what it means to be part of a community that listens, shares, and learns together.
  • Excursions

Toddlers regularly travel to Marin Horizon’s main campus to enjoy the big playground, the garden, and play with their buddy class. Each year, toddlers also visit the local fire house and the recycling center. These two trips are the source of many great conversations that develop vocabulary and shared experience in the community.
  • Potty Training

The faculty supports students wherever they are in the potty training process. All potty activity is recorded for each child every day, and most toddlers are potty trained by the end of the school year.
